RingCentral AI Receptionist, or AIR, comes from one of the larger business phone providers, but it does not require switching to RingCentral. It can sit in front of cloud, on-premises or hybrid phone systems through call forwarding or SIP1.
Best for: Companies on RingCentral, or with an existing phone system, that want an AI receptionist with CRM updates, multilingual calls and published per-minute pricing.
Not the right fit for: Companies that want live human receptionists behind the AI.
What RingCentral AI Receptionist does
AIR answers calls 24/7, several at once, and is trained from the company's website, FAQs and documents. It answers questions about hours, services and policies, captures leads with custom intake questions, updates CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Zoho, books appointments in connected calendars and sends confirmation texts. It supports English, Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese and can switch language mid-call. Complex calls are handed to the team with a call summary1.
It is sold standalone or as an add-on in the US and Canada, and as an add-on in the UK, Australia and the EU1.
Published evidence
- Televero Health. After automating all inbound calls, monthly appointments rose from about 6,600 to 7,600, which the company puts at a $204,000 month-over-month revenue increase. Vendor-published case study.3
RingCentral also cites results at Axis Integrated Mental Health and Iron Workers International on its product page1.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Layers on top of existing phone systems through call forwarding or SIP, and syncs directly for RingCentral customers.
- Updates CRMs during the call and books into calendars.
- Hands complex calls to the team with a call summary.
- Named case studies with figures.
Limits
- No human receptionist service; the fallback is the company’s own staff.
- Overage of $0.50 a minute beyond included minutes.
- Standalone purchase is available in the US and Canada; elsewhere it is an add-on.
Choose another option if: You need callers handled by people as well as AI, or the call has to create work in an operations system rather than a CRM.
Pricing
Published: standalone from $49 a month with 100 minutes; with RingCentral’s phone plan, $39 for AIR plus $30 for RingEX Core a month. $0.50 a minute beyond included minutes.
Questions to ask RingCentral
- How many minutes would our current call volume use, and what would overage cost in our busiest month?
- Which CRM fields does AIR write, and can it update an existing record rather than create a new one?
- How does a hand-off reach someone outside working hours?
- What does it need from our current phone system to sit in front of it?
